Gary DeLong, Chair
Gary DeLong has been an active community leader in Long Beach for over 25 years by serving on the City’s Economic Development Commission, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Council, and the Boards of the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Long Beach City College Foundation, the Long Beach Public Library, the California Conference for Equality and Justice, ChildNet Youth & Family Services, Goodwill Industries of Southern California, and now the Long Beach Community Foundation. He was previously a member of the Long Beach City Council representing the 3rd District of Long Beach. He is currently the President of The RTP Group, Inc., a successful telecommunications management company. Gary joined the LBCF Board in 2013.
Robert Stemler, Vice-Chair
Bob Stemler is an attorney with Keesal, Young & Logan primarily handling corporate, real estate, and employment law matters. He joined the LBCF Board in 2013. His a member of Rotary International, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Molina Foundation, and the California Conference for Equality and Justice.
Donita Joseph, CFO
Donita Joseph, CPA, MBT, is a Partner at Windes & McClaughry Accountancy Corporation in Long Beach where she specializes in taxation issues surrounding estate and trust tax planning. She is currently the Board President of Camp Fire Long Beach and a Board Member of the Long Beach Museum of Art. She is a Past President of the Estate Planning and Trust Council and a nationally known speaker on income taxation of estates and trusts.
Annette Kashiwabara, Secretary
Annette Kashiwabara is active in the Long Beach community through her affiliation with many nonprofit organizations. She is currently the Executive Director with the Assistance League of Long Beach. She joined the LBCF Board in 2015 and is also a Board Member of Community Hospital Long Beach and a community volunteer with the Long Beach Police Department.
Randal Hernandez serves as Director, Government Affairs for the Orange County-Long Beach region for Charter Communications. Randal is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing government and community affairs initiatives that advance the company’s strategic objectives at the regional level. Hernandez is a member of the Long Beach Economic Development Commission appointed by Mayor Robert Garcia. He was a Schwarzenegger appointee to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and served on the California Green Jobs Council. His current board memberships include: Los Angeles County Business Federation; Central City Association, Los Angeles; Center for the Study of Los Angeles at LMU, among others. Hernandez is a graduate of Leadership Long Beach and Leadership Southern California. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University Long Beach. Hernandez has resided in the Long Beach area for over twenty-five years. Hernandez joined the LBCF Board in 2016.
Blake Christian is a tax partner at Holthouse Carlin & Van Tright in Long Beach who specializes in corporate, partnership and individual tax compliance and planning. He is active in the community and has served on numerous community boards including the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Long Beach Rotary, the Orange County Treasury Advisory Committee, Long Beach Assistance League, and the Long Beach Symphony. Blake joined the LBCF Board in 2013.
Michele Dobson is a local attorney whose law firm is diverse, full service practice. She joined the LBCF Board in 2015. She is also a Board Member of several notable nonprofits including Long Beach Day Nursery, the YMCA Metro Board, CCEJ, Long Beach City College Foundation, Arts Council for Long Beach, and the Cal State Board of Governors.
Bob Foster, former Mayor of Long Beach, is a widely respected business and community leader. Prior to serving as Mayor, he served as president of Southern California Edison before his retirement in 2006 after more than 20 years with the company. Mayor Foster is a graduate of San Jose State University in public administration. He remains active in a number of community and public policy organizations including Long Beach Rotary, Long Beach Jewish Federal Foundation, California Independent System Operators, Alliance to Save Energy, and YMCA of Greater Long Beach.
Judy Ross is the former Executive Director of the Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership where she worked for more than 15 years. Judy joined the LBCF Board in 2015 and brings a wealth of knowledge about local nonprofits to the table.
Judy Vander Lans
Judy, a retired Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, has lived in Long Beach her entire life. She has always been active in the Long Beach community. She served on the Board of Water Commissioners for the Long Beach Water Department, has been a member of the Woman’s Council of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, has been a member of the Long Beach Bar Association, the Women Lawyers of Long Beach, and the California Judges Association. She is currently a member and active in the Ball/Hunt Inn of Court and the Rotary Club of Long Beach. She joined the LBCF Board in 2013.
Steve Keesal is a financial advisor for Oppenheimer & Co. He is a graduate of Cal State Long Beach and served as an Airborne Ranger in the United States Army Special Operations Command. He is very involved in Long Beach as an active member of Long Beach Rotary, the Fisher House Southern California, and the American Gold Star Manor. Steve joined the LBCF Board in 2016.
Frank Newell is the former principal and President of the law firm Newell, Curtis, Nelson & Burnight, now known as Curtis & Burnight. He specialized in estate planning, business and real estate law. Frank has been involved with LBCF since its inception, previously serving as Legal Counsel to LBCF. He is an active member of several community organizations including Long Beach Rotary, Long Beach Rotary Scholarship Foundation, Ronald McDonald House of Long Beach, Aquarium of the Pacific, and the Long Beach Public Library Foundation. Newell joined the LBCF Board in 2016.
Mark Guillen is the West Regional Manager of Public Affairs at Crown Castle, Int. He is currently a Board Member of The Rumba Foundation of Long Beach, the Ukleja Center for Ethical Studies at CSULB, Finance Committee Member for the Downtown Long Beach Alliance, and on the Advisory Committee for Long Beach Community Action Partnership. Mark joined the LBCF Board in 2017.
Tony Gales is a tax partner at Rossi LLP in Long Beach who specializes in corporate, partnership and individual tax compliance and planning. He is active in the community and currently serves as a board member of the Long Beach Police Foundation, Tichenor Orthopedic Clinic for Children, and the Community Hospital Advisory Board. Tony joined the LBCF Board in 2017.
Marcelle Epley, President & CEO
Marcelle Epley is the President & CEO of the Long Beach Community Foundation. She has both an undergraduate degree and Masters of Business Administration degree from California State University, Long Beach. Her small and large business experience and leadership positions served at local organizations including Long Beach Transit and the Press-Telegram, bring a wealth of knowledge and valuable background to the Community Foundation. She is actively involved in the Long Beach community through a broad range of charitable organizations including Long Beach Rotary, the Long Beach City College Foundation and Leadership Long Beach.
